The worship service on Sunday, April 29, 2023, opened with Sonate for Clarinet and Piano, 1st mvt. (Camille Saint-Saëns), played by Yevgenia Semeina and Susanna Boberg, daughter of Sunwoo Kahng and choir member Peter Boberg.
Susanna is a senior at Boston University Academy and is headed to Williams College in the fall. She enjoys all subjects but has a particular interest in math and computer science. After graduation this spring, Susanna looks forward to traveling this summer.
In his meditation, the Reverend Ken Baily told the story of how Rabbi Harold Kushner of Natick, who passed away on April 28, became interested in the question of why the righteous suffer. He spoke about how Rabbi Kushner used Hebrew scripture to write his bestselling book, When Bad Things Happen to Good People.
“Kushner released the idea that everything that happens is the will of God; God doesn’t cause everything that happens,” the Reverend Baily stated. He asked worshippers, “How do we lead our lives so they matter?” and concluded, “It’s all up to us.”
The choral anthem was “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need,” sung by the senior choir.
