The Advent Market on Sunday, December 3, 2023, drew visitors of all ages to the Newton Highlands Congregational Church Great Hall for an hour of shopping for good–to support nonprofits Church World Service, Family Promise Metrowest, Heifer International, Newton Food Pantry, and Rosie’s Place–gingerbread house decorating, health kit assembly, and socializing.
Volunteer table staffers sold handmade gift tags, note cards, crocheted items, jewelry, and baked goods. Intent children carefully assembled and decorated small gingerbread houses. Attendees were also invited to bring winter accessories for a mitten tree and diapers for the Diapers-Not-Included drive. The Advent Market was overseen by the Mission Committee and chaired by Mission Committee co-chair Holly Grieb.
One highlight of the event was a raffle for Michael Grieb’s spectacular handmade (baked, assembled, decorated) gingerbread house; the excited winner was Melissa Dietrich. The house will be featured at an all-church potluck on Friday, January 5.
Churchgoers are invited to donate winter accessories and diapers throughout the month!
