Third annual Soul Food Dinner raises spirits

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

About 25 people turned out on Friday, February 8, 2026, for Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC’s third annual Soul Food Dinner.

Church members and friends enjoyed an evening of conversation and engagement. Guest speaker David Stamps made brief remarks about Families Organizing for Racial Justice, and guest speaker Rielle Montague Barnes described her work helping organize the City of Newton’s Juneteenth celebration.

Menu items included fried chicken and fish from Slades Bar & Grill and macaroni and cheese, cornbread, collard greens, cole slaw, and cookies, made by church members.

The dinner was organized by Deacon Tann Scott, other members of the Board of Deacons, and Sally Brickell, vice moderator.
