The Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, parlor was the scene of a gathering of 30-plus convivial members and friends on Friday, February 9, 2024, in honor of Black History Month.
Diners feasted on chicken wings, catfish strips, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread provided by Park 54. Remarked Marian Reynolds, “What a wonderful evening–very good spirit and energy!”
Guest speakers Bianca Rameau Sullivan and Jacqueline Nadeau talked about Families Organizing for Racial Justice (FORJ), whose mission is to ensure that Newton is an anti-racist city.
The dinner was organized by Tann Scott, a member of the Worship & Spiritual Life Committee, with help from Moderator Sally Brickell. Donations to underwrite the cost of the dinner are welcome.
