A socially distant outdoor service in memory of long-time NHCC member Helen Hoffman will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Avenue, in Cambridge, MA.
Helen died peacefully on September 25, 2020, at the impressive age of 101. She was NHCC’s oldest, most long-term member.
We believe that light shines in the darkness and that darkness will not overcome it. Celebrate that good news and give thanks for Helen’s life. And God bless us as we wish Helen eternal peace.

Writes Reverend Ken Baily, “Helen welcomed me as a deacon emeritus during my candidate visit to NHCC; she was a leader of many, many groups, including Nurturing our Souls and the Woman’s Club; and she stood as an inspiration when NHCC voted to endorse the Supreme Judicial Court ruling on same sex marriage: she told others she was for it and the church should be also, and others were moved by her vote.”
For decades the star on the church’s roof shining during Advent was organized and even funded by Helen. When she was a small child on Centre Street she could see the church steeple/tower from her bedroom, and always loved the light.
Helen was also connected with the legendary “Mother” Colton, NHCC’s longtime Christian Education leader.
I will always love Helen. Her smile and humility and shyness. Quiet determination always.
I will miss Helen. She was one of my anchors, to hold me in place.

She was a independent woman never know what she would do next.
One time I called for days no answer, finale she answerer my call , I said were have you been, she reply, I was in Iceland ,like really Helen.
All I can say is that I had the best Aunt ,Love You Helen and we will miss You.

Helen was a delightful, caring Deacon and friend! She always had a smile and a twinkle in her eye. She taught me where to place the candles on the the altar and how to pour proper tea. She made the best lemon squares! We shared a love of flowers for Christmas and Easter. I will miss her very much!
