Annual Advent Market attracts aficionados of giving for good

On December 7, 2025, the Great Hall at Newton Highlands Congregational Church was the scene of the church’s annual Advent Market, led by Holly Grieb, Kitty Rieske, and other members of the church’s Mission Committee.

Shoppers purchased handcrafted Christmas items, including gift tags and cards, candles, crocheted items, and baked goods.

The Advent Market raised more than $3,300, and all proceeds were donated to the following nonprofits:

  • Heifer International ($2,140, with $325 earmarked for Water Buffalos, $270 for goats, $60 for bees and $20 for chicks)
  • Newton Food Pantry ($330 in sale items and $312 in donations for a total of $642)
  • Family Promise Metrowest ($542)

The market also featured a tree for people to decorate with mittens and other cold-weather accessories that will be donated.
