Sandwich makers make news

January 4, 2026December 13, 2025 by Sally Brickell

The children and youth of Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC (NHCC), made news with their benevolent sandwich making in December 2025.

NewTV interviewed Wendy Donnell, director of Christian Education, and Megan Kolodny, church school teacher, and ran a news segment about the children’s service project.

Waltham Times ran an article about the project and mentioned Dev Franklin, program support and recovery specialist, from the Community Day Center of Waltham. Ms. Franklin recently visited NHCC to talk with children and youth about the people who eat the sandwiches. She subsequently expressed her gratitude for the ongoing effort.

The monthly sandwich making is a collaborative effort of the Christian Education Committee and the Mission Committee.
