Hope defeats hate in pastoral message

Let us hope when hope seems hopeless, when the dreams we dreamed have died.

When the morning breaks in brightness, hunger shall be satisfied.

One who sows the fields with weeping shall retrace the sorrowing way

and rejoice in harvest bounty at the breaking of the day.

David Beebe

In his meditation at Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, the Reverend Ken Baily spoke about God’s ability to maintain hope in the face of hate.

“God keeps hitting the restart button,” he said. “I choose to believe that God has not stopped hoping and acting. God will help and hope into the future. Hope is a choice.”

The Reverend Baily also mentioned questions that the confirmation class is wrestling with.

Postlude in G (Capellen), played by organist Yevgenia Semeina, closed the service.
