After Easter, answers to “What now?” emerged slowly

Perhaps our work — our daily life — is where we meet Jesus. Where we are is where Jesus comes to us.

The Reverend Dr. Ken Baily

At Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, on May 4, 2025, the Reverend Dr. Ken Baily explained that even after the events of Easter, Jesus’ followers and disciples were uncertain about what to do. People routinely asked, “What now?”

He told worshipers that it took time for those who knew Jesus to change their perceptions. He posited that it might be through daily activities like eating together that believers found God — and find God today.

“Maybe working together and eating together and serving together are actually the best places to perceive the specifity and the mystery and the capacity of the call of God,” he stated.

Children began the morning making sandwiches for homeless clients of the Community Day Center of Waltham. They joined their families in the sanctuary for communion.

The postlude played by organist Yevgenia Semeina was “March in D” (Robert J. Powell).
