Capital campaign funds will support hospital in Haiti

Breathe on me, Breath of God,

fill me with life anew,

that I may love the way you love,

and do what you would do.

Edwin Hatch, 1878

NHCC will donate $8,000 in mission funds from the last capital campaign to Konbit Sante, the largest hospital in northern Haiti. The funds will be used for urgently needed equipment that makes and fills oxygen tanks.

Konbit Sante was founded by a dermatologist-friend of Reverend Ken Baily in Maine. Reverend Baily recently met on Zoom with Rupal Shah, the hospital’s executive director (formerly of Partners in Health) to discuss the donation.

“The creation story in Genesis centers on how God breathes ruach elohim, or the Holy Spirit into earth and creates humankind,” stated Reverend Baily. “Jesus breathes on the disciples in the Gospel of John. And at Pentecost pneuma or Sophia are sent forth to bring the Church to life. I told Ms. Shah that I love the idea of our church investing in oxygen.”

Thank you to all of you who gave to our capital campaign. Thankful for God’s blessings, we’re thankful to be a blessing to others.
