Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.
Proverbs 22:9
Given the partial stoppage of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the government shutdown in the U.S. and terrible damage in Jamaica caused by Hurricane Melissa, the Mission Committee of Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, announced on November 2, 2025, that they would allocate $5,000 from their discretionary budget to support relief efforts, as follows:
- $1,500 to Church World Service
- $1,500 to United Church of Christ International Emergency fund
- $500 to World Central Kitchen
- $1,000 to Newton Food Pantry
- $500 to Centre Street Food Pantry
The Mission Committee made a similar decision to assist with wildfires in California and Oregon in 2025 and Hurricane Helene in Florida in 2024.
