Lent, Ashes and Beginning Again. The season of Lent begins today, Ash Wednesday (February 17, 2021). We have two offerings and invitations for our community, as follows:
- 6:00 p.m. Brief in-person prayer with self-applied ashes for those who wish, on the main church steps at 54 Lincoln Street.
- 6:45 p.m. Zoom service with a time of prayer, Psalm, and song from our Senior Choir (Meeting ID: 811 6260 2481 Passcode: Lent).
The word Lent comes from the Old English lencten, for how days lengthen during springtime. Lent is scheduled each year counting 40 days back from Easter, not counting Sundays. Easter moves each year to be “the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox.” Lent is always a season to begin again.
