January 2024
The magi in Matthew 2:1-12 are called out of their place of comfort and routine by a star in the sky that urges them to follow an unknown and uncertain path. All journeys begin with the following question: Where, oh where, am I going?
Even with the best-laid plans, we move from the known to the unknown as we travel. What new journey might God be calling us to take? What will we leave behind in order to follow God’s call?
You are welcome to join us as we offer food to the hungry and spend time in contemplation during our church school gatherings.
Here is our schedule for January.
- Sunday, January 7, 10:00 a.m., We will gather in the kitchen to make sandwiches for our neighbors at the Community Day Center of Waltham.
- Sunday, January 14, 10:00 a.m., Come be a part of something really special. Let’s work together to fill decorated bags with child-friendly snacks and drinks offered during the school week to children by families who are clients of Newton Food Pantry.
- Sunday, January 21, 10:00 a.m., In the book of Jonah, God hurls a great wind upon the sea, makes the storm worse, speaks to a fish, sends Jonah inside a big fish, and teaches Jonah a really important lesson. Have you ever tried to run away from God? Read Jonah 1:1-17 before coming to class. It’s an amazing story!
- Sunday, January 28, 10:00 a.m., Have you ever wondered if Jesus still loves you even when you make a mistake? Yes, Jesus loves you. In Mark 1:21-28, we learn that Jesus is stronger and more reliable than anything we can imagine. We are lucky that we can take hope and comfort in Jesus’ love in various situations.
Wendy, you have the best ideas!
