The installation of two gleaming new boilers in the basement of Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, was completed on October 5, 2025, and the work has been approved by the City of Newton’s plumbing inspector.
The removal and installation were done by TAG Heating & Cooling. The project began in September.
TAG is now testing the system, and things should be up and running by mid-October.
Treasurer Jim Harper explained that the new boilers should provide some increase in efficiency, but the main incentive for replacing them was reliability. The church’s heating system was designed with two boilers so that either one could heat the entire building; if one were to fail, the building would still have ample heat.
“One of the boilers failed earlier this year, and repairs were not feasible, leaving us with one working boiler that was 22 years old,” he said. “A failure of that boiler would have left us completely without heat. With this project, we have protected the building and all its users.”
