Faith should never be stodgy.
The Reverend Dr. Susan Cartmell
The Reverend Dr. Susan Cartmell and the Reverend Peggy O’Connor led an intriguing discussion about faith leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic after worship on Sunday, January 26, 2025. They shared findings from interviews with 53 members of the clergy across the U. S., which are further detailed in their book The Perpetual Pivot.
They found that churches that quickly and creatively adapted what they were providing for congregants found unexpected reserves and learned lessons they are still applying now that the crisis has passed.
During worship, the Reverend Cartmell spoke about how faith can be a touchstone during times of transition and how people are changed by challenging circumstances.
Children gathered on the sanctuary steps for a discussion of Biblical parables, which they will explore on Children’s Sunday, March 9.
The service concluded with a postlude played by organist Yevgenia Semeina entitled Introduction and Toccata Brevis on “Saint Anne.”
