Birds were the focus of the June 28, 2026, worship service at Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC. The service opened with “God of the Sparrow” sung by the congregation, and it continued with a meditation by the Reverend Dr. Ken Baily about types of shore birds.
The Reverend Baily spoke about predatory birds who steal food from people and from smaller birds, and he described research that indicates that making eye contact with aggressive birds causes them to retreat in 75 percent of cases.
For the children’s message, the Reverend Baily blew soap bubbles to represent Jesus’ omnipresence while Director of Christian Education spoke about the temporary separations of summer.
For the postlude, organist Yevgenia Semeina played “March in B Flat” (E. Duncan).
