Christian education is focus of September 14 service

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

Director of Christian Education Wendy Donnell led the worship service at Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, on September 14, 2025.

Ms. Donnell spoke about the balance of inspiration and preparation that are required for her position. Most important, she stated, was “making sure all children and youth know that they are loved.”

The service was enhanced by readings and refelections by Kessely Hong, church school teacher Megan Kolodny, Anna McMahan, Amanda Ketchpaw Palés, Kitty Rieske, Liz Simpson, and Music Director Jan Zimmerman.

Ms. Zimmerman explained that music is an important part of anyone’s education. “God commands us to study music so we can participate in church life,” she said.

Other speakers, including Ms. Kolodny and Ms. Rieske, spoke about how children learn about the value of serving others through action, like sandwich making for the Community Day Center of Waltham.

For the postlude, organist Yevgenia Semeina played “Festive Recessional” (M. Ellis).
