Community Choir lifts voices on November 17

Enthusiastic singers supplemented the choir at Newton Highlands Congregational Church on Sunday, November 17, 2024. About 10 crooners joined the ranks after attending the choir’s Thursday rehearsal.

Forming the Community Choir is an effort by Music Director Jan Zimmerman to make the choir more welcoming to parishioners who may not be ready to make a regular commitment to the choir, but like to sing together occasionally.

The Reverend Ken Baily spoke about people’s yearning for the message and spirit of Christmas during a time of strong political differences.

“You almost have to be a fool not to love Christmas and Easter,” he stated. “If I long for Christmas, I have to work for it by focusing on the poor and needy beyond these walls.”

In the children’s message, Director of Christian Education spoke about sharing food during Thanksgiving.

Organist Yevgenia Semeina closed the service with Alleluia Postlude (E. Megargel).
