Worshipers gathered at Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, on September 27, 2026, for a service about images of God.
In his meditation, the Reverend Ken Baily recounted stories of Biblical figures who saw or heard God. He also referred to his Quaker upbringing and the Quaker belief that within each human being there is a divine spark.
In speaking about viewing God within other people, he recited the follwing lines, which are attributed to William Blake, an English poet and artist: “I sought my soul, but my soul I could not see; I sought my God, but my God eluded me; I sought my brother, and found all three.”
The children prepared to stuff donated backpacks with school supplies for The Home for Little Wanderers.
They then left the sanctuary and gathered in the church school room for the stuffing project.
The choir sang “Be Thou My Vision, and for the postlude, organist Yevgenia Semeina played Fantasy on “Lasst uns erfreuen.”
