Pastor discusses Martin Luther on Reformation Sunday

Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

The Lord has done great things for us, and we are glad.

Psalm 126

In his meditation on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, the Reverend Dr. Ken Baily provided biographical details about religious reformer Martin Luther (1483-1546), who translated the Bible into German, making it accessible to many more believers. Luther is celebrated on Reformation Sunday in protestant churches.

The Reverend Baily described the priest’s “deep belief in the power of evil” and agreed that evil is “real, powerful, and all around.” At the same time, the pastor asserted that believers can rely on a foundation of scriptures, values, and ethics. “Keep the faith and pass it on,” he advised.

The Community Choir sang “Foundation” (J. Ness Beck).

Special guest Devon Franklin from Community Day Center of Waltham joined the children for their message in the sanctuary and then met with children youth during church school talk about their sandwich making.

Children gathered for a message about sandwich making.

For the postlude, organist Yevgenia Semeina played Autumn Concerto III movement.
