Director of Christian Education Ms. Wendy Donnell attended the Fall Gala for the Community Day Center of Waltham on September 26, 2024, as part of her continuing support for this mission partner of Newton Highlands Congregational Church (NHCC). Mayor Jeanette McCarthy attended the event along with other Waltham leaders.
Community Day Center programs for unhoused people include the following:
- Stabilization Program
- Health Care Coordination Program
- Substance Use Support Services
- Sustainability Program
- Seasonal Night Program
Ms. Donnell organizes monthly sandwich making by NHCC’s children and youth and delivers the sandwiches, along with handwritten cards, to the Community Day Center for their clients. In July and August 2024, using funds allocated by the Mission Committee, she and her husband made sandwiches at home and delivered them to the center.
Ms. Donnell also periodically collects and delivers gently used clothing to the center.
Proceeds from the gala will fund CDCW’s work providing resources for unhoused citizens in Metrowest Boston. Ms. Donnell used part of her professional development budget to pay for her ticket.
