“God and Country” screening, discussion, on September 29

All are invited to a screening of “God and Country,” followed by a panel discussion with local clergy, on Sunday, September 29, at 6:30 p.m., at Second Church, UCC, 60 Highland Street, in West Newton. Free pizza will be available at 6:00 p.m.

The documentary, directed by Rob Reiner, “looks at the implications of Christian Nationalism and how it distorts not only the constitutional republic, but Christianity itself.” The evening will include time for Q&A and small-group discussion and will provide practical steps for protecting religious freedom and democracy.

The movie is the first in a four-week series on Christian Nationalism at Second Church. It will be followed by a three-week study of the book The False White Gospel: Rejecting Christian Nationalism, Reclaiming True Faith, and Refounding Democracy by Jim Wallis (St. Martin’s Essentials, 2024) on October 10, 17, and 24. The church will also offer a four-week sermon series on politics and religion in October.

All events are free and the church has free parking.
