*Prayer of Pentecost
One voice: The Gospel of John says this: “While Jesus was standing (at a festival), he cried out ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water.’ Now, Jesus said this about the Spirit…” Let us pray for the many ways God brings us this Holy Spirit.
All: God of wind and flame and energy and eternity, and our God, along with unknown siblings in time and beyond time, we rejoice in the birthday of your body, the Church, on this day. We praise you for what you deliver in the rush of a mighty wind, so that our sons and daughters might prophesy. We praise you that call us by name, surround us with Spirit, and promise us that we can drink deeply of your living water. We pray to know the ways to use your good and varied gifts, revealed to us through Jesus’ embrace, so we entreat you to be with us now, through Jesus’ name, Amen.
