A recent tour of the grounds of The Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton taken by Sally Brickell, vice moderator, provided insights into how the Newton Highlands Congregational Church, UCC, property might be made more welcoming for all.
Noteworthy features included the following:

- Landscaped walking paths with low-voltage path lights and tactile paving at each end
- Screened gazebo
- Seating areas
- Attractive benches
- Naming opportunities
- Regrading to direct water away from the foundation
- Rock garden to permit drainage
- Adult-sized swings
- Solar panels
- Pet area
- Memorial area
- Upgraded signs that blend into the setting
