Mission Committee delivers for community

Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor.

Proverbs 14:21

The Mission Committee wrapped up another successful donation drive on Sunday, December 17, 2023, following a collaboration with the Christian Education Committee.

Mission co-chair Kitty Rieske recruited several helpers, including members of the Confirmation class, to organize bags of donated food and diapers from the Diapers-Not-Included Drive for Newton Food Pantry, and winter accessories from the annual mitten tree for Mattapan Health Clinic. Thank you to all the donors!

At its December meeting, the Mission Committee meeting reviewed the results from the December 3 Advent Market, which raised about $3,700, and sent funds to five programs, including Heifer International and Church World Service.

They also sent funds from the Newton Highlands Congregational Church budget as follows:

  • $500 to Newton Community Pride
  • $1000 to UCC Climate Justice
  • $500 to Konbit Sante, a hospital in Haiti
  • $1500 to Newton Food Pantry
